There’s a secret under the (removable) handguard, in that the top plate of the pickup is way cool tortoiseshell, looks so great you’ll hardly be able to stand it, when you peek jack plate also same tortoiseshell material. The tuners had already been replaced with recent Fender-style ones when I got it and that’s just fine most of those post-war Klusons, um, sucked. Better yet, I‘ve just gone over the entire guitar my own self and replaced both volume and tone pots since the originals were half-past useless, and it now functions just beautifully, smooth as smooth can be. The pickup is one of those P-90 forerunners with six individual, cylindrical magnets as opposed to height screws, and it is HOT HOT HOT, about as loud as a quarter-pound of C-4. However…….It is indeed a fabulous Gibson lap steel, and I do mean that.

1946 is about as close as we can get on the dating of this fabulous Gibson lap steel, since a lot of these don’t have serial numbers and there was no such thing as standard potentiometer dating in those years.
